Omni-directional wheels
The other day my boyfriend and I were talking about various technologies when he brought up something that he heard was still in development. The thing that he was talking about were omni-directional wheels. These are wheels that work like a ball so that they can go in any direction (front, back, left, and right). They are currently testing these wheels on forklifts. These wheels allow them to make sharp turns and are easier to operate in the often cramped confines of warehouses and stock rooms. Eventually, they would like to use these wheels on cars. This will make vehicles easier to control and larger vehicles like semis and buses turn at sharper angles. Another cool thing about these wheels being put on cars is that they will greatly help out people like me. I have a hard time parallel parking because I do not have to do it that often. With the omni-directional wheels, you just pull up next to the spot that you intend to park in and drive side-ways. An added bonus is that you will no longer have to worry about people parking so close to you that you are blocked in because you can simply drive sideways to get out.
