Keep it short and tweet

One of the latest trends in technology is Twitter. So now everyone is tweeting up a storm. However, this new trend is changing the way we communicate as well. With Twitter, you can only post a maximum of 140 characters at one time. This makes posts very short which has led to it being called micro-blogging. So, people put up postings just like a blog only with less writing (but sometimes with more frequency). How has this changed the way we communicate? Well, it has made us use short hand (again) and has led us to writing short messages. We used to tell stories of events that had happened to us in the past and they tended to be very long stories with a lot of detail. Now, with new technologies, such as Twitter, people can tell stories as they are happening. However, because of the character limit, the stories do not have as much detail. There simply is not enough room on a posting to include it. I am not saying that this is a bad thing because it lets the reader put their own spin on some of the details of the story. It enables them to sort of make the story their own and makes them more involved in it. Unfortunately, it lets the reader put their own spin on the story. If the writer really wants their reader to feel as if they were experiencing the event the way they did, then they would find it difficult to get the details across. So, there is a little bit of a trade off.
