Fight agaisnt AIDS
One of the biggest problems that my generation is facing is the battle with AIDS. Everywhere you hear about this issue and the measures that can be taken to protect yourself from getting this disease which has no cure. The best that medicine can currently offer you are some prescription drugs that will help your weakened immune system. But, that may all be changing. There has been research conducted that has lead to some promising results. This new technology involves using stem cells to create T cells. The AIDS virus works by overwhelming the immune system with so many cells that the body can't keep up. So, researchers have taken T cells from an infected patient and then combined them with stem cells so that more of the T cells that are targeted to the AIDS virus would be created. Then they inject hundreds of the new T cells into the infected person's body and then the T cells go to work. There would then be so many of the cells needed to fight the virus that the person's own body would win out. However, I do not think that this new research has been conducted on humans. If this new medical technology proves to be successful, then hopefully, AIDS will become a virus that can be cured after a short hospitalization once a shot containing the person's own T cells have been injected and a little time is allowed for the body to go to work.
