Old Time Gamer
So, here I am thinking about the lecture that we had about video games. I am not much of a gamer myself. In fact, I refer to all gaming systems as a "Nintendo", but I know plenty of people that are. Growing up, I had the first Nintendo gaming system. You know, the one that you had to take the games and blow into them before you placed them into the gaming counsel in order to get them to work. It had games on it that I thought were great like the paper boy game in which you rode your bicycle and delivered newspapers but you had to watch out for that stupid tornado that would come and get you just as the fire hydrant was coming up. There was also other classic games like duck hunting and Super Mario Bros. I then played the Super Nintendo which had a lot more games and not as many problems with the games not working. The video games that I played with back then were so much fun. Today, kids play games like Grand Theft Auto and Left 4 Dead. It seems like the only thing that makes a video game good is if there is a lot of blood and guts in it. Some of the things that they are putting into games is outrageous. In my women's studies class we have been talking about this new game that they have developed over in Japan. The game is called RapLay (Rape and Play put together). The whole objective of the game is the player controls a man that breaks into a house and rapes a mother and her two daughters. You gain points based on the "techniques" used in the rape. The ultimate goal in the game is not to get the victims pregnant. If you do, then you have to talk them into getting an abortion. If they won't, then you have to throw yourself in front of a moving train. All sales of this game has been baned in the US. According to my class, this game is a big deal in Japan despite how disgusting it is. Does this mean that it is only a matter of time before a game like this is brought into the US? At the risk of sound old (which writing this has made me feel ancient), I think I will stick with my "old fashioned" games in which the worst thing I could do was break a window with my newspaper.
